Day 15 Moscow - Moscow 0/3.678 km

Blijf op de hoogte en volg Rudy

05 Mei 2014 | Rusland, Moskou

The group meeting time was again shifted. This time brought forward to 7 May at Munimo, some 1048 km away. We decided to spend this extra day in Moscow and then make the trip in 2 days without tourist stops.
We went in to the city (via shuttle bus and metro) in time and tried to find the Tretyakov Gallery. After several direction changes we finally found it. It was however closed on Monday’s. The rain and wind were becoming more intense and when Jamaliah spotted a tour bus we jumped on it. It was a double-decker with a half open top. We settled on the top deck. The wind still blew some of the rain inside. We made the full two hour circle, not motivated to use the hop on hop off service. The pictures of the sites (Whitehouse, Neo-Gothic skyscrapers from Stalin) were grayish. Maybe I should over expose these shots so they look less grim. At the end of the ride we made our way to the Red October factory complex which is now the trendy restaurant area. The hot soup warmed us up enough to dare the rain again. The next shelter was in the large rebuilt Cathedral of Christ the Saviour (1860, destroyed 1947, rebuilt 1997). The last visit was to the metro where we worked out how to switch metro lines and also took some pictures of the underground stations. In the evening we had delicious chicken lasagne made by Deirdre. She made extra so we took some along in the camper

    Wytske:

Leuk om jullie moskou ervaringen te lezen en de foto'te zien. Brings back memories... We missen alleen verhalen over dames met korte rokjes en heeeeel hoge naaldhakken, maar daar was het nu waarschijnlijk nog te koud voor.. :-)

Rudy

We are a family of 4. Rudy Welling was a Principal Production Technologist with Shell/NAM's offshore team. He first went on sabbatical from April 2014 to April 2016. In that period he made a return trip to Vladivostok with his wife, Jamaliah, in camper Passepartout. This was followed by trips to New Zealand and Spain. In April 2016 Rudy re-joined NAM/Shell again in Assen for a year and then retired in May 2017 after 37 years with Shell. He and his family have spent some 21 years in various Shell locations around the world (NL, UK, Brunei, NL, USA, Nigeria, Oman, NL). Jamaliah Jaja is the Manager of the house and comes from Brunei. Anton (1993) studies Business IT in Groningen Bernard (1994) studies Mechatronics also in Groningen Both boys still live at home, but will have to run the household on their own when we start our trip. Our previous trip by car (Volkswagen Passat Station) was from Oman to Holland in 2007. Rudi's great plan is to travel with his wife in a camper around the world. The trips will be in steps. The first is from Amsterdam to Vladivostok. De second from Tierra Del Fuego in Argentina over the PANAM highway to Prudo Bay in Alaska. Australia and New Zealand will be separate side trips and Africa will either be done out and back from Amsterdam or just from the Cap to Amsterdam. Now as K/O of Rudi's retirement we are making this second step on a journey around the world. We hope you will enjoy our story Rudy & Jamaliah
