In the morning the mountains were covered with a thin layer of snow. It had snowed overnight. We drove out of the valley on to a well deserved stretch of tarmac road. After 40 smooth km’s we came to the remains of an old citadel, Koshoy Kordon. The lovely small site museum was opened for us and we also had a stroll through the eroded sand walls which formed the citadel. The rest of the road to and past Naryn was reasonable till we started the slow climb up to the Dolon Pass (3058m). It was under construction. Since it was raining most of the way you had to be careful not to slip. All went well and we descended to Kochkor (1800 m) where we stayed in a CBT guesthouse. While typing this the house filled up with a Dutch tour of 17 people in two minibuses through Kirgizstan. And later our two other campers joined us too. There goes our romantic getaway.
